Enlace Project Internship 2014-2015 Application Has Been Released!


POSITION: ENLACE PROJECT ANNUAL INTERNSHIP

Position type:  International Internship
Schedule:  14-month commitment. Monday – Friday, but flexibility required during select seasons
Start Date:  May-June 2014 (start date flexible)

Description of Organization

Enlace Project is small non-profit organization that focuses on economic and business development in the municipality of El Sauce, located in the northern part of the department of León, Nicaragua. Enlace Project also provides international education and volunteer opportunities to foreigners.

Job Duties

The principal function of the internship is to support Enlace Project in its development as a sustainable and impactful international NGO. The position entails the following:

Marketing Development
  • Create monthly newsletters and other promotional materials for Enlace Project
  • Research, contact and grow strategic alliances in the U.S.
  • Foster positive relations with Enlace Project's donor community
  • Update and build Enlace Project's website, social media and online presence

English as a Learned Language Instructor
  • Create lesson plans for advanced-level English students
  • Teach advanced-level English three times weekly
  • Support novice-level English instructor and lesson development and execution
  • Oversee classroom management techniques and class progress
  • Update and create new learning tools and methodologies
  • Create, carry out, and grade final evaluations for students who complete a level

Volunteer Trip Planning and Logistical Support
  • Support Enlace Project in the logistical arrangement of international student and volunteer groups
  • Serve as a guide and interpreter with international student and volunteer groups
  • Provide travel, cultural and emergency assistance to these groups as needed
  • Co-lead orientation sessions and reflection sessions with students
  • Assist in developing international student programs

Skills & Attributes

  1. University degree in Marketing, Business Administration, International Relations, Economics, Education, Non-Profit Management, Spanish, Tourism, or related studies
  2. Fluent in English. Intermediate or higher-level Spanish preferred, but not required
  3. Highly adaptable to different cultures, people and living conditions
  4. Strong organizational skills and work ethic
  5. Desire to travel, work in rural areas and work in an office setting
  6. Teaching or mentoring experience preferred
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  8. Excellent group management skills and teamwork mentality
  9. Sociable and dynamic personality
  10. Interest in international development and project management
  11. Experience with outreach and/or donor relations preferred
  12. Understanding of social media tools and strategies preferred

Commitment and Benefits

  • 14-month commitment, begins with one-month of training
  • Work week: 40 hours, Monday-Friday
  • 35 days of vacation/sick days
  • One month initial training includes guided self-study in Nicaraguan history, geography, culture, and language as well as general security and medical trainings.
  • One-way airfare from US to Nicaragua is provided at start of internship. Upon completion, one-way airfare from Nicaragua to US is provided.
  • Compensation: first 4 months of position: Residence with a local host-family, 3 meals a day and $100 a month living stipend. Final 10 months of position: Fellow receives $250 a month living stipend, and is responsible for room and board arrangements.
